The Chapleau Public Library Presents
Chapleau in the 1950s

This is CP locomotive No.1410 at Chapleau. This is a Canadian built General Motors GMD, model FP9A which was originally outshopped on April 25 1954. It was sold to VIA rail September 28, 1978.

Additional equipment added to locomotive 1410 that wasn't on the original US built diesel demonstrator were the icicle breakers and a highway grade safety headlight on the rooftop (which you can't see). The icicle breakers were necessary to protect the newly acquired dome cars from being damaged by icicles hanging from tunnels.
