Engine No. 275 was the first coal burning engine to come to Chapleau, circa 1896. It had a tractive effort of 12,000 lbs. or in terms of C.P.R. reference it was considered a 12% locomotive as compared for example with locomotive No. 5433 which is a 58% locomotive.

This would permit this engine to handle 396 tons over the controlling grades between Missanabie and Lochalsh. Engine No. 5433 would handle 1940 tons over this same grade.

In 1905 this locomotive was renumbered to No.123 and again in 1912 to No. 7075. It was scrapped in 1926.
