Chapleau and the
Canadian Pacific Railway

Work train at Ridout in 1920. Note the old style wooden water tank as used by the C.P.R. Ridout was once a very important point on the Canadian Pacific Railway. It boasted a large two story station which housed three operators. It was an important point for the taking of water as witnessed by the large water tank. There were also three company houses for the use of the sectionmen, which numbered four and their families. Today, nothing remains at Ridout except the cement base of the water tank. There are no sectionmen, not even a trapper (written in the 1960s). The siding still remains. The photo shows:
